SCI-TEC ‘97. A third year of Science and Learning for Derby.

The largest science and technology festival in the country is set to take place here in Derby for the third year running. SciTec ‘97 will build on the success of previous years and bring an array of school events, workshops and exhibitions to venues throughout the city.
Central to the week long SciTec programme (1st to 6th July) will be a number of events involving school children. Over 80 schools will take part in workshops, exhibitions and presentations during two days of events at the University of Derby.

For the general public there will be displays and exhibitions in the Eagle Centre, in art galleries and at other venues such as Derby Royal Infirmary. As a treat for science fiction fans, this year’s SciTec will feature a SciFi weekend, which will include film screenings at the Metro cinema and a SciFi knowledge masterclasses. David Brodie, Festival Co-ordinator explains, "SciTec aim to show that science, engineering and technology are not just for the boffins. There will be an emphasis on fun, family learning, with a chance for everyone to get involved".
Sci-Tec will also focus on business and economic development with bodies such as The Year of Engineering Success and The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council having an input to the programme.

This year Derby PRIDE will be supporting this major education project with a fund of £12,000.
