Melboune Hall

Melbourne Hall, seat of the Marquis of Lothian

The earliest parts of the house date back to the late 16th century, though there have been many additions and alterations since then.
The chimney piece in the dining room is dated 1596. In the grounds there is a fine example of the work of Robert Bakewell, Derby wrought-iron worker. Dating from around 1703 is a bird-cage style arbour, showing Bakewell's extaordinary craftsmanship.
