Chellaston Arms St Peter's Church, Chellaston, Derby Chellaston Arms

St. Peter's Church, is the Church of England panish church of Chellaston. It has been a place of Christian worship serving the people of Chellaston for more than 750 years. The first recorded priest in Chellaston was Stephen the Clerk c. 1240. The present church building dates mainly from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, with the tower and lady chapel dating from the nineteenth century. The structure is listed as grade II*.

St. Peter's Church is also a community of faith which welcomes Christians of all denominations to its worship and other activities. We welcome all those who wish to learn about the Christian way. It works in a Covenant (an ecumenical agreement) with the other two churches in Chellaston, Chellaston Methodist Church and St. Ralph Sherwin Roman Catholic Church.

Chellaston Arms

The aim of St. Peter's Church is to make the love of God known to those who live in Chellaston and to those from further afield who attend its services. We exist to provide opportunities for regular worship and to offer the services of baptism (christening), marriage and funerals to those living in Chellaston.

The Church is run by the Vicar, Churchwardens and Parochial Church Council. The present Vicar, The Reverend Nigel Guthrie was appointed in 1994 and is assisted by The Reverend Rowland Worrall and The Reverend Ayshe Erdal.

During 1997 the Tower of St. Peter's Church is being restored and an appeal has been launched to raise the £20,000 needed for the work, which includes, repointing and the restoration of the pinnacles, weathervanes and clock faces. There are a series of fundraising events being run during the year which will be advertised locally.
