Derby was one of the earliest English porcelain factories (1740's). The factory has a collection of early examples and pieces in present production. The finest display of early Derby ceramics can be found in the Ceramics Gallery at Derby Museum in the city centre.
The long established tradition of fine ceramics is continued today at the Royal Crown Derby factory on Osmaston Road here in Derby. At the factory there is a shop selling items in current production, and some recently out of production (both seconds and perfects).
